About the Artist
Lenore Gish is a Calgary-based Canadian artist working in mixed media, She was born in northern Alberta, raised in Calgary and raised her own children in the small southern Alberta town of Claresholm. Gish was a public school teacher in both Claresholm and the nearby town of Stavely.
Lenore completed a BFA in art at the University of Calgary and a BED at the University of Lethbridge. She also completed art classes at the Banff School of Fine Arts and Red Deer College and was a visiting student in the art department at the University of Lethbridge. Most recently Gish completed the Creative Visionary Program designed by Nicholas Wilton - an on line coarse designed to teach both fundamental art concepts as well as how to connect the artist’s work to their life. A fundamental and powerful connection.
Gish discovered the joy of making something from nothing as a young child. The practice of “creating” happened in evolving expressions - from creating dolls,, bears, hooked rugs, refinished furniture to creating clothing or quilts, a beautifully designed room or a nationally recognized rare dog. breeding program (Lowchen) - always expressing herself as a “maker”.
In 2020, after a late in life divorce, Gish picked up her brushes again and turned to painting. Since then she has moved towards curating both her life and her art work - searching for meaning in both. She wants to feel free to search for the best version of herself and to appreciate the gift of art making. To reflect the messy business of being human. She is inspired most by contemporary figurative artists like Amy Dury, and Pilar Lopez Baez. Gish enjoys art that communicates emotionally, more than intellectually. Staying true to her own choices, recognizing what she loves, what is important to her, is the best way to share art that is uniquely hers - her voice.
